It will be just fine up there. Just as good as it would be in just a standard ceiling if that`s where you have to go.
The one thing that I typically do with a drop ceiling tile type installation is, use a piece of hardboard (pegboard without the holes) cut about 14″ x 14″ with the hole cut out of the middle to use as a backing plate. It will stiffen up the ceiling tile a bit and give some better mid-bass response.
The back being open isn’t a worry.
Make sure you use a sub in the system.
